Tactile continues to hold a high place in my pantheon of experimental music over 15 years after my introduction. Some music, for some unspeakable reason, lends itself to extraordinary experiences, conjuring both alien and familiar sensations that evolve over the course of hundreds if not thousands of listening sessions. Every time I play Borderlands, for example, I experience a kaleidoscopic onslaught of my previous sessions with the album. It's overwhelming. Some experiences have a tendency to peak more sharply above the surface, like my own experience with cancer, during which Tactile was on constant play. I have such fond memories of walking through a blizzard in downtown Toronto, playing Inscape on my discman, happy that my white cell count was high enough that I could venture outside. I also recall when John sent me a copy of his Minimal Self album Formula of Reversal. By then I'd finished treatment but was still constantly exhausted, struggling to hold down a job any child could do. I want to thank John Everall for all of the extraordinary experiences his music has inspired, all the tough times his music has gotten me through and the amazing times into which it has immersed me. From the bottom of my heart, John: THANK YOU! For everything.
